Fields of Cava

A short distance from Barcelona is the wine region of El Penedés, specialized for centuries in the production of cava. The Penedés is the ideal option for all travelers wishing to escape, the at times overwhelming Barcelona, and relax in a more intimate environment surrounded by nature. Wine and cava lovers, of course, will find themselves in the ideal resting area for the weekend.

Last Saturday we had the opportunity to visit the production winery of my favorite cava, Recaredo, on a tour that oozed passion and devotion towards high quality products.

In Recaredo they are shy six years of becoming centenarians, but they are still a boutique winery in which the third generation of the family still slaughter the bottles by hand, without freezing the neck. This was taught to us by Jordi, the founder’s grandson, after previously showing us the subtle technique of the poignetage of his bottles. The vineyard is entirely its own, with some plots dedicated exclusively to its corresponding broth, being all its Brut Nature cavas. After the guided tour, available in several languages and also exclusively, we proceeded to the tasting of three in-house references, which served as an excellent appetizer before being transferred to a restaurant of Catalan cuisine where, after enjoying an excellent lunch, we enjoyed the environment until sunset.
